| Increased target life, higher power density and improved film quality are important considerations in the highly competitive tool coating industry. Sputter Ion Plating has long been employed in tool coating processes although it is generally true that deposition rate and target utilization are somewhat lower than those experienced with processes such as Cathodic Arc PVD. Sierra's cathodes, which consistently provide target utilization as high as 50% at elevated power density, offer deposition rates comparable to other processes.
